MANAGING THE VITAL PULP IN TRAUMATIZED IMMATURE PERMANENT TEETH

The treatment decisions we make for our pediatric patients have significant long-term implications on their dental status through adulthood. Nowhere is this truer than in the immature permanent tooth. Many traumatized permanent teeth are immature at the time of dental trauma. Pulpal injury is often an unfortunate consequence of this trauma. Managing the pulp in an immature permanent tooth poses a unique set of challenges. We aim at encouraging root maturation and continued root formation to apical closure. This requires measured thought in making the right treatment choices and demands diligent delivery of care to ensure success. The speaker will discuss the when, the why and the how of the different treatment protocols that encourage apexogenesis in the vital immature permanent tooth. Mastering these minimally invasive techniques will ensure superior long-term prognosis for the tooth.
