CONTEMPORARY ENDODONTICS IN PRIMARY TEETH
PRASAD MUSALE
Dr. Prasad Musale graduated from Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College & Hospital, Pune in 1994. Furthermore, he completed his Masters in Dental Surgery (Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry) in 1999 from Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai. He also completed his Diploma & Masters in Laser Dentistry from Medical University of Vienna, Austria in 2010.
Following his completion of educational tenure, he established “Little Ones Big Smiles” Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry clinic in Koregaon Park, Pune in 1999-2000. His research thrust areas are Pediatric Endodontics, Microscopic Pediatric Dentistry, Minimally Invasive Dentistry and Laser Assisted Pediatric Dentistry. Under the aegis of same he has published more than 25 scientific papers in peer reviewed National and International journals. On the similar lines, he has been invited as faculty at various CDE programs internationally and across the country. He has conducted a workshop on “Microscopic Endodontics in Pediatric Dentistry” and delivered lectures on “Pediatric Endodontics” and “Pediatric Laser Assisted Dentistry” in the 2nd Jordanian International Pediatric dentistry Conference, Amman in April 2018.
Recently, he has contributed in the Fifth edition of ‘Textbook of Pediatric Dentistry’ by Dr Damle SG, Third edition of ‘Pediatric Dentistry’ by Dr Shobha Tondon and an upcoming edition of ‘Pediatric Dentistry- Principles and Practice’ by Dr Muthu MS. He has been recognised by various International Journals and honoured as Editorial Board Member for The Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice (JCDP) & Journal of Investigative Dental Sciences (JIDS). He has also been associated with various journals as reviewer like European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry, Journal of Applied Oral Science, Indian Journal of Dental Research (IJDR), Journal of International Oral Health (JIOH), World Journal of Dentistry (WJD), Journal of Dental Research & Review (JDRR) and Journal of Dental Lasers.
To his belief in keeping himself continuously updated with the current practices and research in global scenario, his contribution and attendance to National and International conferences is also a mention to be made. He has also been mentor to various undergraduate and postgraduate students for paper and poster presentations at National and International forums- many of which have been noticed as remarkable contributions to the field of dentistry and awarded for their excellence.
He has been associated since years as member of professional societies viz., Indian Dental Association, Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, International Association of General Dentistry & Society of Oral Laser Application – India, and South Asian Association of Pediatric Dentistry.
ABSTRACT
Paediatric dentistry is a unique specialty dealing with the total and comprehensive oral health care of children. With the passage of time, there has been a definite shift from an ‘extraction-based approach’ of managing the symptomatic teeth to a more conservative approach of maintaining the integrity of the natural oral structures while alleviating the symptom for the child. The advent and progression of various endodontics procedures suited specifically for primary teeth has been at the forefront of this shift. Paediatric endodon,cs has seen a paradigm shi2 from the conven,onal aggressive approaches of managing pulpally involved teeth to a biological approach due to the be9er understanding of the physiology of pulpal ,ssue and dynamics of caries progression. In this approach, not only is the effect treated but also the cause of the pulpal involvement. This presenta,on would provide the audience with a brief overview of several contemporary endodon,c procedures performed under dental opera,ng microscope in children using appropriate diagnos,c aids and adhering to a biologically harmonious approach.
